Thursday 20.1

During the night of Wednesday to Thursday, members of the Maquis blew up the Ratier factory in Figeac after first stealing tobacco and gasoline. There is only one death. The most important machines are destroyed (8 explosions). This afternoon I did not go hiking. I visited the Ratier factory buildings, then, after running some errands, I went to the dentist who told me that I had a good set of teeth. I returned about 4 o’clock. We played in study hall because there are only 13 of us. My sinus is very painful today. I’ll see the doctor tomorrow.

Friday 21.1 I applied for a student I.D. card. In German class there are only 2 of us. One by the name of Verilhac from Lyon (also a boarder) and I. He is nearly as good in German as I am. The teacher asked him to make a map of Germany because he draws very well. At this very moment he is drawing the map on a canvas against the wall. As for me, I went to town to see the doctor about my sinus. He could not see me because he was delivering a baby. Therefore I must return tomorrow. To date, I have read: L’Aiglon [The Young Eagle] by (Rostand); Colomba (Mérimée); The Mutineers of Elsenor (London); Koenigsmark (P. Benoit); For All The Gold Of The Sea (G. Toudouze); From One Spying To The Next.
