Peter Feigl’s Diaries

Wednesday 23. 2

I already had wanted to see Jean-Claude yesterday, but I could not get the bike. Maybe tomorrow? I played croquet with Schiltz. Yesterday I went to pick up some Marshal Pétain flyers at the “sub-prefecture.” I kept a few. Loupias gave me more newspapers.

Thursday 24. 2

I was finally able to get the bike. I left at 1 pm. Near Figeac, the chain let go. I got to Jean-Claude around 2. We talked for a while and then we went to the parish priest’s cavern. We went through his garden by climbing over a wall. There I saw a ladder with 37 rungs (spaced 15 to 17 cm apart) which we climbed; that’s where the cavern entrance was located. He lit his lamp and having taken a stick in hand, we entered. There were water puddles and many stalactites from which water was dripping.
