Peter Feigl’s Diaries

The 1st and 2nd series took their scholarship tests. In town and in the surrounding area things are hopping and things are getting hot. Rumors are running wild. I hurt myself in gym this morning (toe). This afternoon I was able to go out by joining with others to carry baggage for the refugees. The seniors wanted no part of us. I also went to the movie at the youth center. I saw: “The Heroic Struggle.” I hope I’ll be able to leave soon because I have had it. We heard machine gun fire this evening in study hall.

Friday 12

The town is flooded with Krauts. The maquis is fighting. There are Krauts and armored vehicles everywhere. All the males between the age of 16 and 54 must report to the gendarmerie. It was said that they will be returning right away but they were all taken away with the “cuckold.” The Germans came searching etc. We played. [Peter used this often as a a code word for hiding]

Saturday 13

We played. It is believed that they are in Cahors.

Sunday 14

Mass. It was learned they are in Montauban. I was able to go out. They [drawing of a swastika in the text, meaning Germans] finally left. Denise did not come.
