Peter Feigl’s Diaries

Sunday 23.1

This morning I went to mass by myself. During mass, an airplane flew by very low. After lunch I went with Mathé to Pezet (a café). Then to the Rex cinema (The Big Battle) and to the Vox (Viennese Blood). After the second film everyone wanted to waltz. Especially the [student] monitor (Bros). Everyone danced a little, then we calmed down. I read “The Pavilion Is Burning” and started on “The Adventures of Impish Till and Lamin.”

Monday 24.1

Only geography and singing class was held this afternoon. In singing class, we were together with the 3rd [grade], a mere 7 [students]. The teacher played waltzes for us, etc. Then I read and tended the stove. They’re still not talking to me. Mathé got news that he is to return to Paris because his mother, like nearly everyone else by the way, fears a landing before April. Finally, before going to bed, Simon told me why they quarantined me. It was because of the box. Well, that is settled.

Tuesday 25.1 It was settled. We only had German. The weather is not fit for man or beast. It’s raining and the wind is howling. Mathé is leaving tomorrow evening. The other monitor (Vigne) came back and makes us sweat. Bread this morning was like JOB paper. I did not get to eat well until 4 o’clock and in the evening.
